On Being a Sustainability Communication Specialist

AS a Sustainability Communication Specialist, I focus on the communications and business aspects of environmental management and CSR initiatives implemented by my clients. I decide exactly how to present the concepts and goals of my clients’ environmental management or business to the public. This ensures that the general public are well informed about the importance of corporate environmental and social responsibilities.

I construct media campaigns, usually by analyzing the current environmental and socio-economic state of the relevant area in tandem with prevailing laws. In many ways, my job is the perfect fusion of public relation work, social work, and environmental conservation.

I spend a great deal of time in my office researching on environmental and CSR updates, creating environmental and social responsibility branding materials, and communicating with my clients (mostly the environmental and CSR managers of their companies) about the goals they want to achieve concerning their sustainability communications. However, I will occasionally be required to leave the confines of the my office to engage with the general public, small-and-medium enterprises, and social workers out in the field.

In the above photo I am visiting eco-friendly batik craftsmen in Ciwaringin, Cirebon, West Java, back in October 2016, to collect data in order to write a book about environmentally friendly villages built by one of my clients.©2017
